Levy Information

Orcas Island Park and Recreation District is asking you to vote on a 15¢, 6-year levy on the November 3rd, 2026 ballot. This levy replaces the current levy – which was approved for $0.15/1,000 of assessed value in 2021 and expires in 2027.

Why a Levy?

OIPRD is funded through property tax levy, program fees, and occasional donations and grants. As a park district, we are restricted from placing a permanent levy on the ballot and are limited to 6-year funding cycles.

What will it cost?

  • The levy will cost $0.15/1,000 of assessed property value in year one.
  • Based on current property value data, a property assessed at $500,000 will contribute $75.00 for the year.

What will it fund?

  • Facility Operations & Maintenance
  • Parks, Grounds and Improvements
  • Recreation Programs, Activities & Staff

Is Orcas Island Park and Recreation District part of San Juan County Parks?

No. While Orcas Island Park and Recreation District is located within San Juan County, it is not part of San Juan County Parks, the budget, or levy structure, and is a stand-alone special purpose district authorized by voters to serve Orcas Island in 2009.
